All Things Great and Small. The PolyCon Miniatures' Tourneys Report First among our presentation of Miniatures was the large 40,000 scale Titan demonstration. Ten-thousand points per side. (For those of you who don't play that's a LOT) The Eldar duked it out against an Imperial Reaver Squadon with heavy tank support squadron. Unfortunately for the Eldar the Imperials were nearly impervious to damage while the Eldar seemed to be highly flammable, and in some cases actually inflicting damage to themselves through tightly-packed formations and a number or out-of-control vehicles. (Pop-up attacks next time guys!) In all fairness I should mention that none of the Imperial tanks were mobile, and were counted as partial kills. Also, two of the Reavers, had no void shields, and one was rendered mostly weaponless. Next year promises an even larger game with more space and more widely diversified forces. It is also likely that infantry will provide a role next year as well. We should offer our gratitude to Armorcast who provided us with the most up-to-date rules and datafaxes, as well as supplying us with some previously unreleased terrain to display and evaluate. The Warhammer 40,000 tournament was attended by players this time wielding Tyranids, Chaos, both the Ultramarine and Space Wolves chapters, Orks, and Eldar. We began army presentation at six in the afternoon on Saturday, and finished by about one in the morning on Sunday. Kudos goes to our own John Hostetter for his Tyranids' victory over all comers. He got a tour through our prize vaults for his victory. Everybody who gamed gained from the experience, and also left with a complementary resin terrain piece donated to us by Armorcast. Second and third places got special pre-release resin terrain bits as well. We also had a special large-scale demonstration game of Warhammer Fantasy, Skaven versus the High Elves at 3,000 points per side. Many came to watch a round or two of the slaughter. In the end my Skaven were able to soak up the wounds better than the Elves due to their outrageously excessive numbers. The High Elves were then promptly flushed from the field of battle by an all out attack by my Globladiers and Censor Bearers. Thanks to Jason Dyer for bringing his excellently presented High Elf army and for continuing the battle until three in the morning! It was a brave and bloody fight. Also, of great note was the painting contest where each of the contestants took five miniatures and were allocated two hours to paint them all. Amazingly enough we had several groups that were completely finished in the limited time allocated. The winner was an mind-boggingly detailed group of fantasy archers painted by Dan Hyman. He took the prize of a squadron of Warhammer 40,000 Seraphim figures donated by Capt. Nemo's. Amanda Carpenter took second place with her "Reebok Orks". Michelle Freeman was solid in third with a finely color-coordinated group of archers. I look forward to the next competition where I know we still have many miniatures thanks to Citadel. I look forward to next years games where we hope to offer an even wider array of games, larger tournaments, and more prizes! Lastly again, special thanks goes to Games Workshop convention support people who provided gift certificates to all the tournaments. Both Capt. Nemo's and Games People Play for their generous prizes, and offering various tournaments throughout the year to hone our skills. Appreciation in large heaps also go to Armorcast who donated lots of terrain bits and prizes for these events. Till next time, Tanks! Cody E. Hudson
