President's Address
by John Hostetter All of us with the PolyCon Committee are excited about the convention this year. We are well prepared, and are going to give you the best convention yet and we are going all out to make this year's convention feel special. With a theme like "Pirates!" you can be sure we'll have games ranging from classic swashbuckling to space piracy, to everything in between. But if you don't like pirates, don't be disheartened. As always we will have plenty for everyone and something for all tastes. With so much going on, we are expecting a record number of people to attend PolyCon XVIII, this June 23rd, 24th, and 25th in Trinity Dorm On Cal Poly Campus. Now, you might ask yourself, "Why would we want more people at PolyCon? It's already perfect!" But with more people come more games for you to play, as well as new faces, and new events to attend. Industry support for the convention is also up this year, we have more dealers, and more prizes than ever. It's not just the main convention that we are excited about either. More people are attending the minicons this year. More people attended the winter minicon than any previous minicon. In addition to our events, there are more people coming to our weekly planing meetings this year. Attendance is regularly fifteen people, a record for the club. With all this extra help, we are trying out new things. Through advertising, we are trying new ways to reach gamers and attract more people to the convention. Look for our ads in upcoming issues of your favorite gaming magazine, as well as on your favorite role playing web site. Also be sure to take a gander at our own web page at www.polycon.org. Another place you can find us this year is at Cal Poly's Open House. We are expanding our presence this year, so be sure to come see us on Saturday April 15th. We will have a rope ladder climbing booth at the carnival, so drop by and test your balance and dexterity. Our other booth will be our famous rat on a stick booth; as usual there is no rat, and no stick. In other news, PolyCon has licensed its very own set of Button Men from Cheapass Games. You can order your very own copy from our web page, or at any one of our events. All in all, this year is shaping up to be great, and we hope to see you at the convention.
