The PolyCon Miniatures Tournament Report   by Cody E. Hudson

Well, like all things, as we charge towards the next millenium things get better and bigger, except the miniatures. We like them small. Save the Titans!!!

We had a record number of participants this year in both the Warhammer Fantasy and 40K tourneys. The painting contest went off with a blast, and the subsequent Squig-Hopper race was great for all of us.

In Friday night's Warhammer Fantasy tourney we were graced with several firsts, such as three subsequent 2500 point battles. A fantastically painted Ork and Goblin hoard squared off against an army of Chaos Dwarves and battled over the Blood-Soaked Bridge. Far away, a High Elf army was shown the true display of cold-blooded might by a Lizardman army in the Swamps of Despair. The final legacy of the evening was yours truely's Slaaneshi Chaos Daemon force ransacking the reconstructed force of Orks and Goblins in the Dark and Deranged forest.

On Saturday, at noon, we held the painting contest and Squig-Hopper race. First, we broke out and divied up the 24-odd Squig-Hoppers, all donated from G.W.'s OutRider Ron Matthew's vast collection of miniatures. After painting four Squigs for two solid hours, we wound up with a rather motley group of painted figs. You can all be reassured that judging this competition was the hardest part of all the events.

The 40K event hit us like a storm. All participants fought hard and furiously, working for any inch or foothold they could gain. There were many battles, and to describe them all would be very painstaking and long indeed, not to mention that I, myself, had throw in my ante with an Inquisitor-led Imperial Guard Force. There will be many stories told about the battles we fought that day for years to come.

In the end, for all told, The Reward for Excellence in Tactics and Gamesmanship for the Warhammer Fantasy, 40K, and the painting contest goes to Rick Wall, assistant headmaster of the High Point Academy in Pasadena California.

Thank-you all again for your fine participation and gamesmanship. I hope to see you all and many more in the year to come. Next year we will be holding 2000 point battles in Warhammer 40K (3rd ed.), and Fantasy. Be sure to look forward to our special scenarios all involving this year's theme - Pirates!

Please don't forget that we will be holding Warhammer Fantasy and 40K events at all minicons and TactiCon v.3 this coming year.

Special thanks to the G.W. OutRiders who demonstrated games nearly around the clock to introduce new gamers to our beloved hobby.

Special thanks also goes to Armorcast, makers of fine resin vehicles and terrain, who have generously supplied our miniatures tourneys with terrain and prizes for the last three years.
